Situated between Southampton & Salisbury and on the edge of the New Forest, The Shoe Inn has been a resting place for travellers for hundreds of years. The original thatched Inn is believed to date from 1420 and was extended around 1640 to become a posting station for the mail coaches.

A tollgate was constructed across the road and the landlord was responsible for collecting the King's tolls on the border between Hampshire and Wiltshire. The last New Forest highwayman was caught drinking in the Inn one night and publicly hanged in the morning. It is said that his ghost remains in the old thatch building, but do not worry if you are staying with us, it’s in the owner’s accommodation!

All our food is homemade and locally sourced. We offer lunch, dinner and bar snack menus so there is always something to tickle your fancy. Roast dinners are available every Sunday, and don’t forget to try a special from the blackboards- once it’s gone, it’s gone!

Our real ales will change regularly so there is always something new to try. We love to serve ales from local breweries, and if you have a favourite let us know- we will always try and get it in for you!

We have 5 letting rooms all en-suite and with TV, tea/coffee making facilities and 24-hour access via a separate staircase.

Under new management since January 2017, Sarah & Andy have plans to refurbish the bar and restaurant area- keep an eye on the gallery or our Facebook page to see how we are progressing!

We will hold regular quiz nights, live music nights & charity events- check out the events page to see what’s coming next!
